Tranquil Bloom Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota fired and unfired porcelain paper clay, handmade paper, organic material, pulped offline currency 1 million dollars 12′ x 17′ x 13′ Tranquil Bloom is an installation composed of five to eight pieces centered on negotiating boundaries. The pieces are made in collaboration with Crane Industry using one million dollars of offline currency. Every five years, our currency is taken offline, shredded, and new paper bills are made. In my residency, under tight security, I was able to use the shredded offline paper currency. It was pulped, pulled into handmade sheets, and formed into florettes that were incorporated into my sculptural and installation work. This theme of graceful navigations around harsh structures can be found in my installations Midnight Bloom, Perlman Museum Installation, and Tranquil Bloom Sedalia. photo credit: Peter Lee Post navigation Previous PostNext Post
