Pullman Installation
Washington State University, Pullman Washington

fired and unfired porcelain paper clay, handmade paper, organic material
34′ x 20′ x 18′

This piece was influenced by research on the oropendola bird, and that its communal nesting provided greater rates of survival of the young. I was struck by the dexterity of the weave as well as the siting of the communal nests hung and sometimes precariously positioned at the outer ends of tree branches for protection from predators. This theme of extreme conditions yet thriving and growing can be found in my installations Prairie Deep and Double Bloom.
