Boulder Swell

fired and unfired porcelain paper clay, handmade and recycled paper, harvested willow

Boulder Swell is a site built installation that demonstrates perseverance despite boundaries. Boulder forms, constructed out of hundreds of bloom parts, are joined on a wooden armature in layers through a paper fibrous clay mix. These boulders navigate the interior space of an intuitive cage-like form and present energy and determination to the point where it crosses and defies the boundary moving beyond the wood cage-like structure. This hanging installation shows the power of prolific growth in navigating and expanding beyond impediments of containment. This theme of defying capacity and growing beyond boundaries can be seen in my piece Balanced Bloom.
