My installation Woven White was inspired by the Tent Caterpillar. This mighty woven caterpillar tent form and worm has negative effects on the host in pursuit of survival. This conversation of balance in an ecosystem and negative impacts from invasive species has been of interest equal to the research of symbiotic ecological relationships. For this installation, I built multiple 30 ft tall woven forms in 3 or 4 layers with porcelain dipped reclaimed cotton from the North Carolina bedding industry. Using paperclay adobe slurry, I wove the forms and installed them with tension to the 30 foot ceiling. The transparency of the weaving pattern and layers was both dense and airy. This theme of growth structure making strong connection to architecture of place can be found in my installations University of Washington Installation, Myrna Loy Installation, Missoula Museum Installation, Edge Gallery Installation, Allegheny College Installation, and SAC Installation.
